Hi All
I have owned Askari who is a F4 male kitten for just over 2 months, amazing cat and my first experience of the Savannah breed.
Just getting used to the energy and vibrancy he displays and he is also highly socialised and affectionate.
I have been weiging him regularly and he now weighs 3.7kg at 5 months old and I was wondering is he on the right trajectory to be a 10kg + adult as the breeder stated that he was the largest of the litter and well above average.
It is amazing because to my eys he has doubled in size in those 2 months. he is also yet to be castrated and I will be taking him to my vet to do that at around 6 months. Will castration affect his growth rate?

Welcome Waisal! Since he is a tad over 8 pounds at 5 months old, it could he will be a big boy! But the largest kitten in a litter does not necessarily translate into largest cat... Castration should not affect his growth rate.

I think pictures are in order

Regie (my Avatar) is about that weight at almost 7 months. I think Askari will be a big boy.

Askari is a stunning boy!

As for the castration - if you perform late castration (after he has started to develop sexually) it will assure that the growth plates have closed since it is the release of those hormones that triggers their closing. Cats that are neutered early (around 3-4 months before they start to produce testosterone and other hormones that come with maturity) may continue to grow for a longer period of time because they will never produce those hormones that trigger the closing of the growth plates.
