Time for Neuter (Collar and Capstar?)

Time for my 6 mo old F2 for his neuter. This is my 3rd Savannah and have had two Siamese prior and I have never been told to administer Capstar (flea med) and a collar (after)....

I am against any meds unless mandatory and this sure doesn't sound mandatory to me....

And the collar....Are you kidding me? He won't go for that....He will hurt himself worse by wearing it I think..

Your thoughts please.

There's no reason to do it. Even if you had a flea problem, I think it would be on the safe side to withhold all unnecessary medications until the cat had completely recovered from the surgery. Just my opinion.

they want me to give him a pill of the capstar mixed in with his food the night before....I looked on line and did see some vets doing it....Still can't justify it. They gave me the pill to give him...They claim not to have a flea problem there, supposedly it is just "precautionary"....I don't know...My gut tells me they have or had a flea problem and are trying to either nip it or prevent it again...

Well, then you've got to decide if fleas are a bigger risk than giving your cat a med he's never been given and right before surgery. I personally wouldn't do it. You've got to go with your gut.

Yeah...I think I will tell them I gave it to him and not....I will hold onto it in the event he scratches other than me when he gets home

I'm not deep into veterinary practice, but I do wonder if there is any evidence to support the use of a pre-op medication to suppress fleas in the absence of a confirmed diagnosis.
Could they possibly be worried about a client bringing in fleas?

That's what they said...Precautionary.Hmmmm...
Other places do it after looking on line....
I am holding off on the collar as well...

Yes, I think that they are trying to keep their place flea-free...although this would only cover animals coming in for surgery? I guess keeping the surgery room(s) flea free...as the exam rooms are used by animals that I doubt EVERY animal wanting to see the vet is required to take Capstar before being seen?

What collar? A flea collar or identification or e-collar?

Hmm, thinking you may not have found the right Vet yet. Feeling that I'd have to lie to my vet to get the treatment I wanted, just rubs me wrong.
