Any chance we could we could get the chat box back on the main page?
Maybe with a few tweaks to the way it works so it is a bit longer and has
a header that tells people this is not for anything more than chatter.
Or a check boy for new users that tells then no real questions.

I'll see Sean! Right now we don't have many people on here interacting, so I'm not sure what the point would be.

The thought was to entice more people to stay and look deeper.
Not having the email alerts really made it hard for me to remember
to stop in and look at what was replied to and I tend to look around
more once I am here. One other option to that would be to have a
RSS feed. That might also work.

I'll fix the email alerts - not sure why they aren't working. No one really used the chat box, except for three or four people. Let me think about what is best for everyone, me included.

I didn't get an email that you had posted in this thread.

Anyway why not send a mass email out asking about who would like the chat box back?
I know more work for you. I have been the web master and sysop on a heavy used forum
on top of my real job and know how much work it is. Noting like two full time jobs.

Although I know about this site and in the beginning before I had access to post I read posts here often. I seem to have not checked in in quite awhile and I think some sort of notification/email saying new items posted or RSS feed (Although I don't use those much these days) would be a great nudge to get folks checking in more often. Plus all of us just letting new owners know about this site and how helpful it is!

Before the move to the new host I would always get an email.
Now after the move even after Paige worked on the problem I
am still not getting any emails with new posts.

Just putting this comment here rather than start a new thread... It used to be (back in 2017) that the posts in the introduction section were only visible to logged in members, and when some of the technical changes got made, that section became public... Not sure if this was intentional, and if it was I want to respect the reasons this was done, but personally there is things I am more comfortable sharing if the people who can see it are more limited.... Not sure if others also feel this way?

I don’t feel this way. It is a public forum, and anything I don’t want read by random people I simply do not post.

Also, as far as I remember, I could read anything I wanted before I joined, I just could not post replies, or start threads. I don’t feel like it’s fair to potential new members to limit what they can read, and I wouldn’t have joined if I hadn’t had that initial access to all the awesome info available here.
