Blood in Stool

Hey Everyone,

Looking for some advice on what to do next, as many of you have been oh so helpful and supportive and know much about what Keljin and I have gone through.

So I know something is still wrong with Keljin, he has still been bleeding with his stools about 1x per week, and has terrible smelling gas. Last night he had an accident in the bed. He has not gone potty on the bed for almost 2 months now that he has been better and free roaming the house with no accidents, but Its like he seeks comfort and avoids the litter box when he is in pain.. so the fact that he went on my bed is like he is trying to tell me something. Also there was blood in it again when he went last night.

I am not sure at this point if I should still pursue parasites, or look down other possibilities at this point? perhaps another food change? Currently I have him on Royal Canin kitten (the beet pulp was reccomended by my vet in it and it has been working good for his sensitive tummy and helping his consistency) At this point he has no more drippy diarrhea at least but there is STILL something underlying or unresolved! It is soooo frustrating its been a never ending battle for the last 4 months.

He finished his Ronidazole for Tri-Trich about 3 weeks ago I wanna say? And he had been great during and after then for a while then now its back to these symptoms all over again..

Gosh, Breannna, I'm sorry! Have you had his stool checked one last time for everything....tri-trich, parasites, etc ? Did you try probiotics with him, even plain yogurt and plain canned pumpkin? You could also try plain boiled chicken breast, cooked and cooled. The bad-smelling gas tells me he may have a gut inbalance, and these foods can help restore that. You might want to try a switch in food to grain-free, gradually of course. Is he eating anything besides the Royal Canin? He may also have an anal tear, especially if he is straining to go, or even from having had diarrhea that could be causing the blood to appear in his stool. I wish I could be of more help....I do think another vet consultation is in order for him, though, to get to the bottom of this once and for all....

Yeah I agree seeing the vet and checking his stool for everything all over again sounds in his best interests. A few months ago I was using probiotics and pumpkin before, and there was no noticable change in his symptoms so we went down the parasite path for a while. He did have tapeworm and roundworm when I first got him, so he was dewormed multiple times and given tapeworm meds. Then after that we did metranodizole and ronidazole for other parasite possibilities. At least he isn't dripping stools all over the house like he was when I first got him, it just concerns me that my baby still bleeds and isn't happy :(

I will schedule to get him into the vet for more testing yet again, and I was thinking of going to a grainless food as well. He was on Blue Buffalo when I first got him, but I stopped feeding him that to take it out of the equation as a possible stomach upset for him since he was not improving. Maybe that is what he needs all along.

Breanna, you may also want to try Seacure...I have forgotten all about this, but it is what I used for Taj when his IBD was at its worst...also, maybe some plain yogurt as Pam has suggested and switching his food gradually...and maybe eventually raw food...something like Feline's Pride or stella and chewy's, where you don't have any fuss and muss ;)

That looks like a good option, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks Paige!

What color are the stools?
Are the poops solid?
Is it gas that smells or the poop that smells?
What meds is he on right this moment?
What exactly is he eating right now?

Digestive enzymes

He could have a hemorrhoid or something from the bad poops?

The stools have usually been solid at this point yes, but the one last night was soft and in a puddle with lots of juices. The color was a medium brown, and its the gas that smells worse than the stools. No meds at the moment, and eating Royal Canin Kitten.

Ya know I was actually thinking a Hemorrhoid too, because the bleeding doesn't happen every time he has a movement, only occasionally like once a week. So maybe its just rupturing every now and then but not every time? That makes more sense than all the parasite treatments I have tried.

Maybe the TF came back? Some cats can be carriers or just have issues with their young immune systems not fully kicking it out. Some have to be retreated. With a smell like that it really sounds like TF. Diarrhea will often make a litter trained cat have accidents almost like it is a cry for help. Some simple help is something like Kaolin, similar to Kopectate except without the salicylic acid to help calm his digestion. In some cases, a cat has had issues for so long that diarrhea becomes an inflammatory problem which actually needs a steroid to decrease swelling and calm things down. If your tests come back negative, this may be his issue???

I agree it can not hurt to retest. Also check for the Hemorrhoid

Also I would now decide on what diet you want. I agree a grain free food all the time also what would be good for him is also to get raw as well.

I really think it is too soon for the TF to have come back...if this has only happened once, it sounds more diet-related...
