Cornish Rex

Anyone know much about the breed?

I recently let our local rescue know that I am wanting to foster. I know this time of year they get crazy overwhelmed with kittens. So I said as long as they can get along with Kovu, I'll help out for as long as I can.

Well I went in today & she showed me a Cornish Rex they had. She said that while getting checked out by the vet he coughed a couple times, so she didn't want to send him home with me if he has some kind of upper respiratory thing going on. But she said that if he is still here when it clears up that he is the one she had in mind for me.

I'm going to use Google as well, but wasn't sure if any of you ladies have personally dealt with this breed before. I think they look AWESOME. He is 4 years old, neutered, great with other cats & kids.

*His back story was that be was bought to show. (They have his papers & all), but his owner recently passed away. They contacted the breeder, breeder didn't want to take him, so he wound up at the rescue*

This was the best picture I could get of him. He wouldn't hold still! lol

They are a pretty high energy breed, Ashley. I'd foster one!
Even more so than a Savannah? lol
I'm really hoping that I can take this guy home. Sadly this rescue just got a transport from Cali & ALL the kittens have upper respiratory viruses, so she didn't want to chance him having that cough. The lady that runs the rescue has a Savannah (I forget what generation) but she said that he was around the transport over the weekend & now is sick also. :(

Well Trish, Elijah & Kovu are already crazy hyper so why not add one more to the mix? And this boy is just about the same size as Kovu. So if they got to playing around he could def. hold his own. Thats the only thing that worried me about taking a kitten. All the ones I saw today are sooo tiny compared to Kovu .

I know someone who raises cornish rex's and they are awesome cats!!! I would go for it - but wait until the upper resp clears and then be sure to quarantine as you would any new cat into the household.

They can keep up with a Savannah. If you have a room where you can isolate the sick baby, I would take him in.

Cornish are great cats, I once shared a hotel room with one at a cat show and totally fell in love. He ended up in the pedigree of one of my studs too, he was used as a nonpermissible outcross in a Savannah program!

I hope he gets over his URI soon and you get to foster him :)
