F1 assimilating issues....

I hope that she continues to improve...it's just a slow journey for some adult F1s. I am glad the breeder did visit and I think her take was right, Portia is confused and trying to work out the new situation... I think you are doing a great job, and I know it is hard to be patient. I'm not a naturally patient person either!

Thanks for the support as always Brigitte....more to come...:)

My thoughts exactly hissing is a very natural form of communication for the Seval I have a wonderful breeder friend who I speak to each month & she told me that Servals & Savannahs can have up to 20 different kinds of hisses, I'm In Australia where the Savannah is banned & I talk to my friend each month & we talk for hours about her cats I really enjoy catching up with her. John patience is unfortunately something you will have to deal with don't force your cat to do what you want her to do because it could make her worse.

Now touching on the water bottle issue here In outback Australia the temperature can get well over 100 degrees for days on end & I actually use a spray bottle to help cool my domestic cats & they totally love it.

G'day....I am sure you never get sick of that...lol! Thankd for checking in....I will not rush things with Portia...she is excuisite and worth the wait....she is pictured left...you can see how beautiful she is....I hope you can enjoy these cats someday...they are the best pets I have ever had....my F2B is a laugh riot....she is perfect in every way...our lives have changed for the better because of them...thanks again and I will keep you all posted as to my progress...

Sending pixie dust, good karma, and hope for all 7 of your chakras to be balanced John. Seriously, I have great admiration for you and your determination to continue working with Portia for a positive outcome. She has, at least, helped you develop more patience than I'm sure you thought you'd ever have or need. I can empathize with that due my own experience with one of my SVs. I am very happy that you are getting continuing support from her breeder. That may well be the key to a successful transition for Portia.

Indeed she is, John, the reward when she fully comes to trust you will be huge. There's nothing quite like the love of an F1... they are a lot of work but they are very special cats :)

Hey Brigitte....I have a new issue....I just found out yesterday that Portia (F1) has been spraying all over my home theater electronics for the past 5 weeks....the volume of urine was unbelievable...it has ruined about 10K worth of TV, stereo & home theater electronics....is there anything, besides spaying which I am doing at a later date, that I can do to eliminate this? I cleaned the area as best I could seeing that there are 100+ pounds of equipment and a MILLION cords to deal with....I doused the area with vinegar and water...sprayed the walls in the niche where the components are with vinegar and water...I also sprayed and semi-soaked a towel and laid it over the equipment...I ordered Bac-out and Feliway just now on Amazon...I am replacing all of this equipment and this CANNOT happen again....do you have ANY advice as to what I can do? I heard cats HATE the smell of vinegar and to spray it in window sills that you do not want them in, etc....thoughts? I welcome feedback from ANYBODY! Thanks as always! :)

I don't use vinegar so can't really comment on that...

I think you need to move up the spay date to ASAP if you want to stop the spraying... An intact cycling female is going to continue to spray. No stopping that, all you can do in that situation is clean multiple times a day!

The cleaners I personally recommend are AntiIckyPoo or UniqueDistributors Odor Eliminator. Those I know work great. I would work on that home theater setup to make it as cleanable as possible.... Cords need to be cleaned well with enzyme cleaner then bundled together ...either those cord covers or if long cords curl up Ina small plastic tote with a hole cut in it so that you only need to lean the outside of the box... That kind of thing.

It is a lot of work but you need to get completely clean (and I personally think that requires enzyme cleaner not vinegar) and you need to keep it clean and monitor until under control...but truly that is unlikely to change until some weeks AFTER she is spayed. I had no idea she was placed with you without already being spayed....
