How small do the pictures we upload have to be?

I haven't been able to upload any pictures since the initial ones I uploaded. Pictures under 3 MB are being rejected as too large and I don't know how to make them smaller.

I believe you need to insert them as thumbnails if you are not already doing it that way. People can still click on the pics and make them larger.

I was inserting as thumbnails but it wouldn't even get past the download step, kept saying file too large for server. It doesn't matter now, I downloaded PICASA and am able to make them ALOT smaller.

Sorry about that, we moved to a different hosting site not too long ago, it's possible it has stricter requirements for downloading pics than the old hosting site had.

New server had nothing to do with it...file size is 2 mb I believe

I have found that anything from 650 pixels horizontal with proportional vertical resolution fits the screen the best..

Thanks for your suggestions and info. I downloaded Picasa and it has a wonderful feature where you can export a picture and it shrinks the file size way down without having too much of an affect on the quality of the picture.
