Ketaset?

I've read on here and on the net about horror stories when using ketamine but has anyone experienced ketaset? It's about that time to get my boy neutered and the place I take him uses ketaset. Is that a safe alternative for SV's?

Has anyone any direct knowledge of any SV that has had problems with Ketamine unrelated to lack of sedation (ie problems in spite of a sedative being used)?

I think there have been a few cases, but I have not seen any scientific proof...and we don't know if the cats were given too much, if it was a bad batch, etc?

the effects i know of are related to the hallucinogenic qualities, the cats being freaked out and out of it when coming out of it.

I used it with laboratory rats and had some bad experiences, enough to convince me not to use it on my cats if it could be avoided.

IDK - mine had no problems with it used as an induction agent...it was combined with another drug...

Not every cat has significant side effects to ketamine, otherwise the drug would be pulled off the market. The problem that has been encountered with Savannahs is that when they do have a poor response, it is much worse then the typical reaction. With most cats the reaction is over with in a matter of minutes so the owner is never aware of it. With some Savannahs, the paranoid hallucinations have been known to go on for hours.

I know of two kittens who died during a simple neuter when given ketamine. To be fair, as far as I know, no necropsy was performed so I can't say conclusively that it was the ketamine. However, in two otherwise healthy kittens it does seem rather suspicious.
