Leash walking and outdoor bathroom habits

George's brother
For those who walk your SV, if they need to go to the bathroom will they find a place and go while on leash? Like if you were traveling by car, I had always assumed I would have to carry an accessable litter box in the car but could they be walked to go to the bathroom?

Wouldn't that be cool to train your cat to potty outside on the leash?!? Nope Kronos will hold it until he has the proper place available to him. I bet you can teach little George to go outside on a leash, just raise him like a puppy!

Cats tend to hold it when they are out and about... Even at cat shows- they will often hold it all day until you get to the hotel room and then there will be a little line to the litter box of show kitties!

When mine were kittens they would never potty while on leash. They do now. I trained them to walk in the gutter of the street so if they have to go #1 it just runs down to the nearest sewer and it makes picking up #2 easier. No messes on the sidewalk or on neighbors' property.

That is awesome, Deborah...

All the credit goes to the intelligence of these cats. IMHO they're easier to train than dogs and it's a more satisfying process. Dogs do what you want in order to please you. SVs do what you want if they think it's a good idea and it pleases them.

So true...all I know is I walk Taj quite often and he has never even hinted at wanting to do his business outside :paw:

Please share how you trained them!!! That is just the coolest thing ever.
