Litterbox size?

This is just a silly question, but I'd love to hear your answers. Z is just a tiny guy (F6 - 8 lbs), but he has the Savannah long legs. The first litterbox I tried was the bottom of a covered litterbox (without the cover). It was a relatively large box, but he still managed to kick litter ALL over the place.

So I moved him to one that was suggested on here - your basic plastic storage box - and that works much better. I was afraid it would be too big, but nope - he jumps in and out just fine. Silly me :)

My question - those of you who have the big guys - F1s and F2. What do you use for a litterbox? Does the storage container work or have you had to move to something even bigger?

No, I find that they do just fine with a litterbox that size....it can depend on the cat and how they use the box on just how large it needs to be. My F1s squat nicely, but my British Shorthair practically stands up when he pees and poops. If my largest F1 did that, I'd be in trouble! LOL!

I have a male F2 Savannah, Shango. I don't know if he's considered to be smaller than average, average or big for a F2. He's about 10 1/2 months old and is 16-17 lbs. I haven't weighed him lately, but about 3 weeks ago he was 16.2 lbs and I think he's grown a little since then.

I have 2 litter boxes. The Kat Kave (http://katkave.com/Kattails_Kat_Kave/Welcome.html) and a plastic storage container that is the same dimensions. I cut a hole in the side and lined the sharp edges with a split tube so it pretty much looks just like the Kat Kave, but was significantly cheaper in price. Both do not have lids on them as he likes to stand up when he goes #2. Luckily he mostly squats when he goes pee. So far, both boxes are plenty big for him. He gets in and has enough room to move around, do his business & cover it up. I do keep it scooped after every use though. I'm a little OCD with keeping a clean litter box. If I didn't constantly scoop, I don't think it would be big enough for him because there wouldn't be enough room to walk around the used litter.

I have a VERY large and long F2 boy who likes to poop in the MIDDLE of whatever box he uses. And he's lazy and likes to step instead of jump in. (Even though his legs are long enough to just walk into the storage tubs as well.) So he prefers this box out of all the boxes we have. The Largest cement mixing tray Home Depot carries. http://m.homedepot.com/p/Plasgad-Black-Large-Concrete-Mixing-Tub-887102C/205451585

I didn't think of using a cement mixing tray... it actually looks like some of the litter boxes you'd find at the store, but much bigger and probably cheaper as well. I might have to give one a try when it's time to replace the storage tub.

They are great!! Thicker plastic then many litter boxes. And the large one is $12. The smaller one is still large enough for many cats and is $6.

What did you use to cut the hole in the side? I tried using a hot wire but the material just resealed itself. I wound up hacking away at it with a box cutter but it was not easy and the end result was definitely not pretty! I need something with tall sides as my Pixie Bob is super enthusiastic about burying his poopies, Rafiki's poopies and imaginary ones as well!
