My SBT is meowing a lot and I want to help her!

Hello all! I have an SBT female Savannah about to turn 4. Recently since I moved to a ground floor apartment for the first time in her life (besides when she was with the breeder) she has developed a trend of meowing at the door, for food, and playtime. I have noticed that she will still meow after I feed her and she eats, still will meow pretty shortly after we stop playing from her being too tired, and she’s meowing less at the door and more just generally “yelling” for something.

I really want to figure out what’s causing her to yell at me, or if this is just the way her personality talks

I have been switching flavours of food, not necessarily food ‘types’ but my two cats (one is just a DSH) always have kibble and they get cans now and again. My sav girl is very small and seems like she could use some weight, she does go crazy over the sound of a can opening, however I know that this can be normal depending on on the cat. I’m wondering if she needs a separate other type of food that she may enjoy more

I have been trying to play with her more to see if this is it, even though her talking and yelling hasn’t been a problem before, but it only works sometimes. Other times she will go right back to yelling for something a few minutes after being tired from running around the place chasing her mouse on a string and climbing her sisal wall.

Something that’s also worked has been distracting her with my drying machine and heated bathroom floor, she gets comfortable when those thing are on really quickly.

I think generally she is really happy, but I’m wondering if there’s anything I havnt touched on that I could be trying. Thanks for reading!

Nice looking cat and very content on her "Window Seat", Elsa Loves hers as well....

Getting to the point, Savannah's like environments that do not Change, you said you recently moved... She could simply be telling you that she misses her old place and is just not yet acclimated with the new environment yet. She may need a couple of weeks to settle in... In the New Environment she may not yet know her territory or just simply misses her old territory. On a Downside, there could be something wrong... Splinter in the Paw for example, if you see her licking a spot that is not normal, start looking there, especially if they act like they don't want you too! Sometimes just talking to them in a calm and casual voice can help.

Make sure she knows where the Litter Box is as well as the Food and Water Dish... Little things can be really hard to detect and on the other side of things, this just may require time for her to claim her new Territory. One other thing, you mentioned being in an apartment... If the previous apartment... She could be realizing scents from other cats, or worse yet where other cats have been in the territory that is now hers! This could be an item you will just have to wait out... You did not mention any bathroom habits, so I am assuming she knows where her litter box is and it using it. Not using the Litter box could be one more thing telling you that she is not happy with the new place.

I hope you get this issue resolved soon... I know when I moved from Memphis to Saint Louis, Elsa went through a little of that, but only lasted a day or 2, but then again, she was always used to Interstate Travel and moving around, so moving never bothered her!
