Toilet Training your Savannah

I will be picking up my furry baby this weekend and I have dreams of toilet training him or her. I have two cats already and never toilet trained them, but I'm thinking with three in the house it'd be very nice to toilet train. I have read that Savannahs are even smarter than regular cats and I was thinking they might be a great candidate for toilet training. I have already ordered the Cat Man Doo toilet training system and seat and am ready with lots of patience and persistence. I would love to hear training stories if there are any. I know it must be hard to do, so feel free to tell me your horror stories as well. I want to be fully prepared! Thanks in advance!

Definitely read the threads already here on this subject...but consider that your other two cats have to also be trainable for this to work. Otherwise, if you have litterboxes out for the other two, why would the Savannah necessarily use the toilet? To effectively train to use the toilet you need to be able to remove other litterboxes, and so if your other two cats aren't with the program... I can't see it working?

I agree. I'm hoping to teach all three. I won't start right away since there will be an adjustment to a new home and new people and new kitties. I don't mind taking my time with it. I just dream of a life without scooping three kitties' worth of poop ;)

This is why I didn't bother. It would be great sharing my bathroom with Zeddie (yeah right) but there is NO way Tiger can learn to be toilet trained. I don't think he would even be able to jump on the toilet

You could put little steps by the toilet but then if a kitty couldn't jump up there they might not also be able to balance on the toilet seat so well...yikes!

Yeah, and Tiger is getting up there...I think he is 10 now:eek:
Time flies when you're having fun I guess

I don't know that at that age, it would be easy for a cat to adapt.

I think when we trialled the toilet seat training our DSHs were 4 & 5 years old.... and one made it clear she was not happy. At that time we had just gotten Katie and she thought an open toilet bowl was a kiddy wading pool so it was way too messy to continue with! LOL!

Yeah, thats why I didn't bother. That and I didn't want to share my toilet LOL
Maybe one day.....when I leave my parents and just have Zeddie. But I would still have to share my bathroom with a messy cat and I don't know if that is better or worse than a messy sister
