Trying to relax about raw

We have had Loki on a raw diet from the beginning. There are a few good recipes posted here, follow the ratios closely. I backed off the supplements (vit B, E, and fish oil), but maintained the taurine level. We use chicken thighs, livers, gizzards, and hearts. They clean the bowl every time!

I am a big fan of raw chunks, taking a whole chicken and cutting it up into 2-3 oz bits. You can sprinkle on the Mazuri (whole prey) as a topper. It provides entertainment for the cats and helps keep their teeth clean. You do have to tolerate finding bones or confine them to a room while they eat.

How do you cut through the bones in a leg? I have since of the best kitchen shears and no go

I suspect meat cleavers can be good or bad. I actually just purchased a meat cleaver - haven't tested it out yet but it doesn't feel very sharp to me. Speaking of which, what kind of cutting board do you use when cleaving your chicken? I'm always afraid of micro-particles getting into grooves and growing bacteria...

I just use a meat cleaver and a plastic cutting board. The board is dishwasher safe, so that is how I wash it. The cleaver is one I bought at Costco, it is a Hunter Wilhelm brand, made with German steel. It is pretty tough, but you have to use a wet stone to keep an edge. Chicken leg bones are no problem, but turkey legs are too big.

I also have a Kershaw shear. It is the only shear that I have not been able to break and you can take them apart to clean. Yes, I do like good tools;)

Never had success with WildTrax, and with Mazuri our boy will eat it by itself.

We feed primarily rabbit and chicken both with organ meat. The rabbits are whole with some added organs and chicken thighs with hearts and livers added.

Do you have commercial raw? If making your own is too daunting, or the supplementing seems overwhelming you might be able to find a brand you are comfortable with and feed that. I'm not sure what brands you have in the States

I don't use a dishwasher but I always try to scrub the cutting board thoroughly. I've never had a problem so guess I'm doing something right
