Savannah Super Cat
I do have a baby gate type of thing, it's not very big only about a 2x2 square. Could that work or possibly getting one that's bigger? Using one of these is about the only way to keep the separated until we move out of my grandmother's house into our own. It's up to you to train the dog not to hurt the cat and vice versa. They will probably set boundaries for each other but you'll always need to be sure that the dog respects your authority when it comes to everything and especially the cat.
If you don't have a room to keep him in at least buy a large wire dog crate so the two can sniff each other without being able to pounce each other. If the dog scares the cat right from the get-go, they may never get along. You'll need to keep the dog confined in the crate when you're not home until he's potty trained and can otherwise be trusted in the house alone.
