It's up to you to train the dog not to hurt the cat and vice versa. They will probably set boundaries for each other but you'll always need to be sure that the dog respects your authority when it comes to everything and especially the cat.

If you don't have a room to keep him in at least buy a large wire dog crate so the two can sniff each other without being able to pounce each other. If the dog scares the cat right from the get-go, they may never get along. You'll need to keep the dog confined in the crate when you're not home until he's potty trained and can otherwise be trusted in the house alone.
I do have a baby gate type of thing, it's not very big only about a 2x2 square. Could that work or possibly getting one that's bigger? Using one of these is about the only way to keep the separated until we move out of my grandmother's house into our own.

It's like this only smaller, 2x2 and squared.

I have this little set up, do you think this is big enough for the puppy to stay in while she and Annu get used to each other?

It looks a little small but should work for the short term.
I've widened it a little but not as much as I'd like to. We shouldn't have it like this for too long, I'm hoping they get along better than expected and we won't have to do this quarantine thing as long as usual. But I'm very excited and ready for the two of them to start their interaction together and hope that they play together more often than not! :)

Main thing Lauren, is to let things progress as they are meant to. I know you are anxious fur them to be all buddy buddy and all, but slow and easy, or one risks making a great fur family a dysfunctional nightmare.

Way to think about is, heck, these kids are going to be with your fur up to 20 years, or more, an extra week, or a month, or whatever it takes to allow them evolve, is well worth the investment. Best of luck, may the fur be with you, or something like that.
