Adding a second Savannah and not sure of age

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping I could get some opinions from everyone. I have a 10.5 month old F1 Savannah. He is very well behaved other than his occasional aggression only towards me. I call it aggression but have basically figured out he thinks I am his litter mate LOL. While my husband and I Play with him over 5 hours a day it never seems to be enough to get all the wiggles out. We have decided that we think he needs a friend (non human) to wrestle around with for that kind of interaction on top of our daily play times. My question is i have the ability to get an F2 Male that is roughly already the same size as him. My worries are that being his age already there might be a dominance struggle, however on the other hand I like the fact that he is already bigger as I am worried about introducing a little tiny Kitten. so I guess my question is as long as the introductory period is done correctly (separate rooms, smells first before meeting, etc.) do you think eventually they will get along being that the new one is not a brand new baby but already 6 months? I mean all in all both are still technically Kittens being under 1 year old. Thanks for your thoughts :)

I think that their individual personalities would also come into this, not just size. My smallest SV is ~9lbs and she totally bullies my 24lb F1.... Big cats don't always want to be boss, just like in other animals. Often it is the smaller dog breeds that are bossy and the larger ones are calm and submissive.

It is hard to say from what you have written whether the behavior you see from your F1 is normal exuberant kitty play or whether your cat is a more dominant personality. And then the F2 you wish to add, whether he is a big docile boy or whether he is also a cat that wants to be boss. That will affect how their relationship progresses...but generally speaking this should go well if you take the time to introduce them properly :)

yea i know that is what is so hard. I do know the F2 is around other cats and plays well so I think that it will just be maybe one figuring out whos boss LOL. Just wasnt sure if a smaller baby would be better but then i Just worry about the little one getting hurt being so tiny

You just have to make sure to supervise all play between them until the kitten is bigger. Once quarantine is over and introductions are made, don't leave the kitten alone with the F1 until you are absolutely sure that the little one can take care of himself.

My F1 is large (27 lbs, tall and long) and I have an F2 who is 17 lbs, and an F6 who is 11 lbs. The F2 doesn't enjoy playing with the F1 because the F1 is a bit rough but the F6 has no issues at all and is the boss of the F1.

Although in the vast majority of cases cats do learn to get along and bond with each other over time once the quarantines and introductions have been done properly, however there are no absolute guarantees. On the other hand, the fact that they are both boys should play in your favor. As Brigitte has pointed out, individual personalities will weigh in but I think that your boys will be more interested in keeping each other entertained than at bay, and I think a companion for your F1 is an excellent option.

We would love to see pics of your boy(s)!

Patti, that's what I was hoping to hear. I guess I just over analyze everything and am so worried. I dont want to do the wrong thing but I think once all done they will really enjoy having a furry friend to play with. I am sure I will loose a bit of my sweet snuggly baby but maybe they will both sleep with me now LOL. Did I upload that picture correctly?
