Anyone familiar with Starbrighter Savannahs in CA?

I've done a search on the forum and don't see any posts coming up with Starbrighter Savannahs, located in Canby, California. Just a quick reminder from my recent posts: we have a male F5 SBT Zyon from Trish @ Allearz; looking for another boy, I've been thinking F3 or 4, depending on cost and finding the one we click with. Been in brief contact with Sarah from Starbrighter and she does have one male F3 right now who looks very adorable. The website isn't super fancy, and not tons of info on it. The price she's quoting me for this boy seems very very reasonable (not complaining!). Any thoughts please either post or contact me privately, I know sometimes people may not want to put potentially negative info out there on the web forever... Thanks! Karen

Hmmm, normally I'd recommend in terms of a newer breeder, looking at where they sourced their cats and asking those breeders about them... but given they've bought ALL their cats from Select Exotics, chances are it was a business transaction and not a lot of mentoring going on.

I think you will get a very different Savannah from your Zyon, the SE cats are one the Bengal side of Savannahs so that is what you will get here, you are basically getting a Select Exotics kitten raised in a smaller cattery. Are you going to be able to visit the cattery, is that why you chose this cattery to look at?

Hi Brigitte, the location (being in California) as well as having an F3 male available and reasonably priced was my initial interest. They are many hours north of me though, so visiting is possible but not convenient either. I personally like to see more information on websites than is provided and I never considered the exclusivity that may come from some breeders as far as where they get their kings/queens - thanks for that insight as that will help me as far as researching other catteries, etc..

Well I will say that I like what they have written on their home page, they at least share accurate information. However, being that all of their cats came from the same cattery I would strongly advise that you request a look at their pedigree to see how much inbreeding has occurred before committing to a kitten.

My biggest issue with this cattery is it looks like they have been breeding their female every four months with three litters since December - NOT a good thing IMHO!

Yes, the constant breeding every 4 months was a red flag for me. It may be the resolution on my screen but the stud appears to have some rosettes. The kitten they have for sale is quite cute though and the price is very affordable.

Wow, I didn't notice/deduce that! Every four months does seem very often for breeding...I agree the little guy is cute but at this time I've pretty much ruled them out. I think the reason I even posted the query was that I had a funny "gut" feeling.. Thanks for the input! It seems I learn so much just even reading old posts on this forum, it's really invaluable!

You are welcome to ask about any breeder here - funny gut feeling or not. Feedback from others is at least as good, if not better than those gut feelings, although I would never ignore either!
