Fertility Question

There is no HP there..HP comes into being bred back to the serval basically...although some breeders claim they have HP F3's and so on...we say that is not really factual, considering one never knows how many serval genes each kitten gets...the only true HP cats are F1's and possibly F2's...

HP F1's are not bred by many because of fertility issues and issues that they behave more like a serval than a savannah - much of what we are trying to avoid...especially in this day and age of AR extremists...
I understand.....thanks for the chat and info Paige...I appreciate it a lot! Sorry if my questions were off the wall, just trying to learn and face to face would have been easier to get to the answers differently !

As others have said, Savannah females are generally fertile at any generation, but when you are mixing the genes of two different species it is not always as consistent as a purely domestic breed. As for the males - again, generally F1 through F4 are infertile, although I have an F4C male (about 12% TWiG or theoretical wild gene) who has been fertile for over 10 years. You can read more about the fertility issues of a wild x domestic cat hybrid here: http://messybeast.com/small-hybrids/fertility-hybrids.htm

As for the filial generations and registration codes, you can read more about that in this FAQ - scroll to the bottom where it talks about Registering and Showing Your Savannah:
http://www.jasirisana.com/faqs/#savannahs The bottom line is, once you start crossing SV x SV at the F4 or later level, the percentage starts saying the same, so in theory you can have an F25 and its TWiG will be around 6% or greater.

Jax's dad is one of the few F4 fertile males. Maybe that's what helped him get those big ears! Lol!

I think you were both talking about Serval genes.
