Food question

Bren Manos

Savannah Child
My 5 month old Oliver does not seem to know how to lick his food up. I know this may seem weird or trivial but I am just wondering if this is a Savannah thing. He bites his food always and does not lick around the bowl as it is getting empty. He will howl when the food gets stuck around the edges and he can't bite it up. I have to go and move the food around so he can get to it better. If I have something on my finger for him to have, he will bite it only and not attempt to lick it off. I just thought this was weird and wanted to know if anyone else had this issue or a way to help him out.

It's not weird... My dsh does the same thing. Try using a plate and see if that makes a difference.

I agree with Rob's post, we have to push one of our boys food to the center one his plate for him to finish.

Also as Paige stated, for most cats plates are are preferred.

That sounds about right..... Savannah World. Elsa has her own plates and I think that helps. eating out of a bowl she won't go to the out edges, I guess they don't like the sides.

Funny, Ninja does the opposite. He licks and licks, but doesn't quite seem to get how to use his teeth. If you're wanting to teach Oliver to lick, maybe try putting some kind of gravy down sans chunks?

Lol, does anyone have ideas on how to teach mine to use his teeth more?

I read somewhere that high-sided bowls can be painful to the kitty whiskers. We switched to plates for the same no edge eating thing. Agreed, works great.
