Furniture Suggestions

Hello all,
I am posting because I may be in the market for some new furniture, and I'm looking for recommendations. Long story short, one of our kitties got upset, and literally had the pee scared out of him. On our couch in our living room. We've removed it from the room, doused it in literally gallons of anti icky poo, and sprayed it down with the hose and let it dry (twice!), to no avail. Unfortunately, my boy who originally had the accident on the couch thereafter marked it repeatedly. And yes, the vet has been to see him, he does not have a bladder infection, and 1 month of anti-anxiety medication did nothing to stop the behavior. He doesn't realize he is doing anything wrong, because in his mind it smells (to him) like pee I'd imagine. Up until about 5 weeks ago, we had never once had a litter box problem.

On Monday, I have a professional cleaning company coming in to clean it.

No point in getting upset at him, but if the couch gets professionally cleaned next week, and the kitty is still marking following that, I'm going to be in the market for a new couch. I'm afraid my expectation is that he will continue to mark it.
What do you all recommend?

I'm probably looking to get something moderately priced as there is no guarantee he won't do this again. Our house has an open floor plan, so locking him out of the room won't work, I'd have to lock him in a room, and he wouldn't understand why he was being punished, so I'd rather not do that. I've thought about covering whatever we buy with something to keep it from being damaged, but all I can really think of is tarp.

Nikki, are you getting something like micro suede? Can you put either those plastic couch coverings or try some bitter apple spray around the new couch? He may not want to pee on it if the smell is gone...are you sure non of his urine is on the floor around the couch?

Tarp is a wonderful invention, I've used it on couches, chairs, and beds. Just be sure to get the heavy duty tarp otherwise they'll shred through it at a whim. You can then cover it with a nice (but not too nice, just in case) throw blanket or couch cover so that you don't have to sit on the ugly plastic.

Paige, I have no idea. The black light shows no urine stains on the floor, and when the couch isn't there, he uses his boxes (we have 4).

Sounds as though he associates the scary event with the couch. If that's truly the case, then replacing it is the best option.
