Hi there!

My name is Kate and I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I am yet un-owned (I believe that is the right term) by a Savannah, but hopefully I can change that soon. I've fallen in love with the breed over the last couple of years and have been thinking of perhaps making the leap into ownership for the past few months. I happily found this site about two months ago and have been reading about personal experiences and enjoying everyone's pictures. I live in Washington (state) with my bf and 10 year old DSH Duncan. I'm not sure how well he would react to having a new addition. He isn't a typical "cat" and enjoys playing in the sinks (toilet lids MUST be down at all times), playing hide and seek with me, and carrying on very long and loud conversations with anyone who will give him the time of day. I like to think a Savannah would be a good fit for us, but I could just want one so badly that I could be kidding myself.

Just thought I would stop lurking so much and introduce myself!

Welcome to the forum, Kate...glad you joined us!

Has Duncan ever lived with another cat or other pet? He may get along just fine with another addition...a Savannah...if properly and slowly introduced...or he may not at his age. Duncan does sound like a fun-loving boy and may very well do fine with a new friend :)

Another thing I have to mention....Savannahs are not allowed in Seattle but are legal elsewhere in Wa state...I'm really hoping you do not live there :( www.hybridlaw.com

I know there are Savannah owners who do live in Seattle despite knowing that idiotic law, but I personally would not risk having my cat confiscated and worse.....

Welcome Kate! We are enablers of Savannahs addiction. Be forewarned. Your resume makes you an ideal candidate for a Savannah. Jump into the pool. Post pictures!
And ahh you might have to move out of Seattle if you live there....

Duncan has lived with as many as three other cats. Two belonged to my roommate and one passed away due to old age. After that he lived with two greyhounds as well. Sadly, I lost them them due to divorce. Now he's an only child but I'm fairly convinced he needs a friend. :)

I live in Tacoma so there won't be any legal issues.... Thankfully!

Yay for Tacoma!

Duncan should be fine with a new friend then, as long as did get along well with his prior kitty roommates....AND proper and slow introductions :)

Take your time researching breeders. You want to be sure your new kitten/cat is healthy, well-socialized and comes from a responsible and respected breeder.

Welcome Kate. Since you've been reading here for awhile, you know having a Savannah is a life-altering experience. Sounds as though Duncan would adapt to another cat. The only consideration would be whether he would appreciate the high octane energy of a young SV.

Welcome Kate! It sounds like you've been bitten by the Savannah addiction! I think with the right introductions Duncan should get along just fine with a Savannah, and in fact it sounds to me like he would welcome a new companion

Welcome, Kate! I agree with the others, I think with careful introductions Duncan should do great with a Savannah companion :)

Everyone else had said it all, so I will just say Welcome. Hope you find a fur baby soon. ( I bet Duncan does too...)
