I am in desperate need of serious help!!! My Male f5 turned one year old 7 days ago and around that time he has been crying for hours at night keeping me awake. We also recently moved about 3 weeks ago and I started a full time and for the last 3 months or so, sinct it was summer, he had prior to that gotten used to me being home all day because i had just finished college. So our first 2 weeks here were fine but in the last week he has just snapped and he is super excited and cries a lot when i get home and I have to play with him all evening or else he will start crying again and then when I try to go to bed he starts crying again and he will continue to cry for several hours and the he'll wake up at 4 or 5 and start crying again. Im losing sleep and I've had to resort to locking him out of my room at night because he is so loud and i HATE not allowing him in bed with me but I feel like I have no choice. Please please help. I'm becoming distant with my kitten because he is stressing me out which in itself is stressing me out. I just want my old happy boy back and I don't know how if I am working a normal job.

It sounds like your boy is suffering from separation anxiety. Playing with him is important, try to give him a dedicated period of time to play with him before you go to bed, at least for 30 minutes or longer. Then try feeding him a meal just before bedtime as well.

I am assuming he is neutered? If not, that could be playing into his calling and crying. Do you know what he does all day while you are at work? There are some home monitoring devices that not only allow you to watch him when you are away, but can allow you to talk to him. Some even have a laser toy to play with him: Pet Cube

There are other types of activities that might keep him entertained during the day so not so needy at night, such as puzzle toys, kitty videos, and cat wheels. Of course there is always the option of getting him a companion kitty too. If worst comes to worst you might want to talk to your vet about starting him on an anti-anxiety medication such as Prozac for a short time.
