I really love this place.

I am learing so much from all of you. After a few years of dreaming about them, I am strongly considering a Savannah AND a Bengal. I have contacted a few Breeders and been on a visit. I found one I really like and is actually within 3hrs from me. We are still working out all the details but the plan is to have once of each. I'm so excited that I dream about them at night and think about them most of the day too. And I don't even have them picked out yet.

After reading many threads I have determined that its probably best to get a boy an a girl. The Savannah will be an F5 or F6 I'm quite sure. If I have a choice.....which should be which?

Savannah boy and Bengal girl. Pro~Bigger Savannah
Or
Savannah girl and Bengal boy. Pro~calmer Bengal?

I don't know?????

Does anyone have a suggestion for me????

Let the individual kittens speak to you and make the choice from there... then you can choose the kitten that appeals most to you rather than making a decision to only get a boy Savannah and that breeder only has females born!

And although the larger Savannahs do tend to be boys, there are some more petite boy Savannahs out there, especially at those later generations, so choosing a boy won't necessarily get you big. A Bengal male might well weigh more too...

You could always wait until the litters are ready to go to homes, visit the breeder, get down on the floor with the furballs and see which ones pick you and whether the feeling is mutual. Don't know about size with Bengals but there's no guarantee that you'd get a bigger SV regardless of the sex. For me personally, I've always liked being chosen rather than being the one doing the choosing.

Hi Athena, and welcome!

For your questions.....either a boy and a girl, or one of each will work, as they will be spayed/neutered and you will work to introduce them gradually, assuming you get them around the same time or even later. There can be varying degrees of activity level and looks in each generation....my F8B Savannah litter from last year remains my most active and athletic to date, and pretty darn nice looking, too It is not necessarily true that a Savannah will be the bigger cat. It depends a lot on genetics and how large prior kittens from the existing litter pairing were. It truly is a crapshoot on size at times. Female cats of any breed tend to be smaller in weight and size, but not always. And Bengals can be every bit as active as a Savannah...again, depends on genetics and generation. Both Bengals and Savannahs are known to to be active, energetic cats and would be a good match together.

My suggestion is to continue your research, ask questions here, and visit as many breeders as you can, and get a feel for the right one to get your kittens from. You will know in your heart and mind which kitten is right for you, and which breeder(s) to go with. Generation will not matter; it is the kitten who "speaks" to you, whether from an online pic or in person. Ask any breeder if you can get referrals or comments from past kitten customers, too.

Who knows...you may just end up with two Savannahs, or two Bengal kittens! The key here is a breeder you are comfortable with, readily answers your questions, is reputable and honest, their cats are healthy, and whether you feel in your heart those kittens are meant to be with you

One thought would be to get one at a time. That way you could get to know the first one, then second, then....

I started that way and am going on my third. They are addicting.
