Im not even sure if he’s a savannah

Hey everyone,

So I’m pretty new to this site, but this is one of the places I’ve been visiting regularly since I adopted my little boy, Apollo.

I’ll post pictures of him at the bottom; but here’s my escalating worry. When I adopted him, they told me that he was an F2 savannah and he would be around 20 lbs.

Note: when I got his yearly vaccinations, I did ask his vet (I just moved to the east coast last year, so New vet) about him, and the guy tried to argue with me and tell me that Apollo was at LEAST 4 years old. So that was no help.

He’ll be 2 in January, and he’s weighing 14 lbs currently, but I just feel like he doesn’t exactly look like a savannah. Let alone an F2. He has spots, but stripes too. And I personally think his face isn’t pointed/ triangle- shaped enough to fit the half dozen breed typing descriptions I’ve read.

I feel like I’m so out of options, since there isn’t even a test that can be done for him. So I figured I’d go out on a limb and ask

I got him in Kansas (i currently live in NJ), and they were supposed to give me papers for him, but didn’t. He’s microchipped, and the registration info for his chip is included. I’m going back to visit family at the end of this month, so I’m hoping to get his official paperwork then.

(And I darn well better for the price I paid for him lol)

Let us know what you find out. Do you have the name of the cattery he came from? Do they have a website with pics of past litters?

I'd agree that he looks Savannah-like, but more like my boys - who are half-breeds - and less like a bred-to-standard SV.

I'm in NJ and always give my kitten buyers registration papers. Do you remember the Cattery name? There are not many SV breeders in Kansas. He does look like a mix, so I hope you did not get scammed.

LIke Paige, I'd like to know the cattery name/breeder's name. The Savannah community is not large, we often know each other. If a breeder is operating outside the breed group, that may increase the chances that you were scammed :-(

he really does not look like an F2, as you've worked out via your own research. Did you pay the going rate for an F2 or was he a bit of a bargain?

He is a pretty boy but he looks more Bengal than Savannah to me, perhaps one of his parents or grandparents was Bengal? It would really be helpful if you had received his registration papers, then you could research his genealogy and know what breeds are in his background.
