Yes, I think it is equivalent to us not liking to use a filthy toilet that reeks and hasn't been cleaned... you do need to make sure to completely empty and scrub litterboxes regularly and clean the surrounding areas, just like you would your own bathroom. Litterboxes are the only thing I use bleach on, as it is effective but also can attract some cats to pee where the bleach odor remains.

A good enzyme cleaner is Anti Icky Poo (www.antiickypoo.com ) or Unique Distributors Odor Eliminator. Both are very useful when a cat is not using the litterbox to make sure you get rid of odors.

I use Anti Icky Poo and like it very well. IMO, it also has a nice scent to it. I got the original version with the red label from Amazon.com since I couldn't find it anywhere locally to purchase.

Once Shango started growing, I upgraded him to the Kat Kave and a rubber maid box that I made look like the cat cave (with some minor modifications, it's pretty much the exact same thing but way cheaper). I also do not use lids on either since Shango likes to stand up when going #2... he's kind of weird how he goes potty lol! Along with scooping 4-5 times a day, every time he uses it, I also wipe down the sides with Clorox wipes at least once a day and then a more thorough cleaning as needed. Just like us humans, our fur babies like a clean bathroom

Try using a different type of litter in each of the boxes, including plain paper to line the bottom of one. Cat Attract is also a very good suggestion - if you can't find it locally you can purchase it online.

Update: yesterday morning I filled 2 litter boxes with clumping cat litter, one covered and one uncovered. The covered box had #2 and nothing on the floor. So perhaps he just didn't like the pellets. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's just that simple.
