Update: so, by the end of our visit the resident cat still didn't like poor Cyro ... we had to keep them separate for the entire time. Oh well ... maybe if we keep at it eventually they'll be good friends.

It was smart to keep them apart if the older cat was unhappy with the visitor. I don't know how far away your parents are but an occasional visit here and there will probably not improve the relationship significantly, although the other cat may eventually learn to tolerate Cryo.

It's a bit far for short visits, so when I go, it's normally for a 1 week visit ... which means Cyro comes with me
