My F2 Theo has been on Clomicalm for the past 3 months or so. He won't take a pill so our vet prescribed a tuna-flavored liquid suspension. The only way to give it to him is by quickly scruffing and injecting it via syringe (about 0.7 mL) directly into his mouth, once a day. One time about 10 days ago or so my husband accidentally got it in his lungs b/c Theo started coughing right away, and then I could hear the liquid rattling around when he was breathing or purring
. Of course I was worried, but after a few hours I couldn't hear it anymore. However, ever since then Theo occasionally coughs like he's going to hack something up, but nothing ever comes up. Could it be a hairball (that he's swallowing?) Or should we be concerned that a small amount of liquid is getting into his lungs when we administer his meds?
I should also mention that taking him to the vet is a royal [expletive] ordeal. In order for the vet to examine him in any way, he has to be sedated. (I will of course take him in a heartbeat if I need to, but the trauma is significant for all involved, haha.) Also, like many Savannahs he's an OCD groomer, but neither he nor my DSH ever spit up hairballs.
Thanks in advance!!!
