Hah! I do the same thing to my Himy each spring except I leave the tail full. I brush and comb her daily and have no issues all winter but come spring she starts getting terrible mats right at her skin that I can't get a comb or brush through. I still "air" brush and comb her daily though as she loves the routine. Similar to air guitar I think.
