Little Guy Sprain

My 15 wk old apparently sprained his left leg....Xrays inconclusive. He has been limping for 4 days now. He puts weight on it but obviously favors it.

Vet said to keep him from running and jumping. That's like keeping an alcoholic out of the liquor store...

Any thoughts out there on how long I can expect a sprain to last? I know it is a case by case basis, but I would be eager to hear some experiences so I have something to hang my hat on to other than a $250 vet bill and a guess.

Very disheartening to watch him limp. Especially when I just got this guy to replace an F2 that died suddenly apparently of heart failure two months ago....

Thank you

Depends on how bad the sprain is. If you can limit his activity by making sure he isn't jumping off of stuff and overusing the leg, you should see significant improvement in 2 wks. You might have to confine him to a large crate for part of the day. Make sure it's big enough for a litter box and water bowl, bed and a few toys. He might not like being confined but it's better than taking a chance that he'll make the injury worse.

I've had kittens do this... and yes, the idea of keeping a Savannah kitten "quiet" is laughable...actually last time my vet started to tell me to keep one of mine "quiet" he stopped in the middle of the sentence to start chuckling. All you can do is maybe confine to one room and just not encourage any play that involves jumping.

It can potentially take months, depending on how bad the sprain is...and how insane your kitten is. But it really is a guess because there are more than one factor in the equation.

Is the 15 week old related to your previous F2 that died of heart failure?

I keep him in a bedroom away from my F5 while at work and put on my striped shirt and whistle the rest of the night
