I think she's just trying to pull off the old sheaths - this is normal, the outer layer of the cat's claw typically sheds every couple of months.

Agreed with Patti and Cary...it's normal cat behavior mostly. Some cats can be a little obsessed with this, I guess maybe like some people that tend to chew their fingernails?

The only exception I know is my F5 Zari. She has a mysterious autoimmune disorder that has had a couple of flare ups leading to huge vet bills... what I have learned is that because she is a typical cat and hides the symptoms of feeling ill, there are some very subtle signs of her not feeling "right" that I watch for to be able to get her help before she gets to the deathly ill stage. One of those subtle signs is that she starts obsessively pulling at her claws like that, but to the point that they bleed.

Most cats just do it as a normal part of grooming. Any of my other cats pulling at their claws I don't blink...
