Neutering age

At what age should a male f2 or f3 be neutered? I will want to reduce the chances of spraying and bad behavior.

I'm sure you will get many varying answers, but I neuter/spay mine around 12 weeks.

As soon as your vet will do it. My vet used to want to wait until 5months but after seeing the studies over the past few years showing no adverse effects of early spay/neuter he's happy to do it earlier now. Best case scenario is for you to get from a breeder that does ESN and then you don't have to deal with it...

I neuter my kittens at 11-12 weeks of age, before they leave for their new homes.

Lots will do it as early as 4 months but I say wait until 6 if you can! I had no problems waiting till 6 and it used to be the norm. There's also conflicting studies around neutering time and their eventual size, some say early neutering will lead to a bigger cat and others say waiting as long as possible will lead to a bigger cat

The difference in the conflicting stories is that the early neutering leading to larger size has a good solid reason why. Production of testosterone closes the growth plates, hence early neutering avoids that effect. Eventual size of course not being a good reason to neuter early, but it has the benefit of avoiding the negative behaviors too.
