Neutering

Shangos issues are very unusual...ixas was neutered with no problem at all as are millions of other male cats.

The outcome of not neutering for Triton will not be a pleasant one and most breeders have a clause in their contacts as far as neutering, meaning you must have your cat neutered within a certain timeframe.

That sure is good to hear! When we had our girls spayed, there were no problems. I figured since a neuter was much less invasive, it would be pretty smooth sailing; but then again, anytime there's an opening in the skin, there's a chance of infection. I'm just so glad Shango is going to be okay!

Ok, Amaury was neutered yesterday. So far, so good. Unlike Shango, there was no bleeding once I picked him up (which I think began Shango's infection process). He yelled and screamed in the cage all way home...well later I figured out he just wanted water and food. He gobbled down a ton of water and food at home. He was very active yesterday, only 9-12 hrs post surgery. So today just making sure he doesn't open up the incision, he hasn't been licking it. In fact, I did not need (so far) to place a funnel on his head. Lastly, I opted not to give him any of the Buprenorphine pain relief medicine - that greatly reduced Shango's appetite when he took it and as expected made him super droggy and drugged up. That stuff's just nasty IMO. dj

I don't think a male cat needs the buprenorphine, they really seem to recover from that small incision faster without it... glad Amaury did well!

Good point! Yeh, the incision looks pretty darn good actually. It's scabbed over, but not bleeding. I'm still going to take him in tomorrow for a post checkup (just to be safe). He's sleeping like a log now

I have to confess that I looked forward to their neutering appointments because I thought I would have at least 1 day of non frenzied activity in the house. And then each time the vet would call me way too soon, chortling, to say that the cat was ready to come home and was currently doing tumblesaults down the hallway chasing after a toy. No down time whatsoever.
