Not eating well & very warm paws

It just might be that you've offered him a little chicken when you were cooking and he thought "what? There's yummier food out there?" and that is why he's behaving this way. Long ago when we got our first Savannah, we offered him a chicken drumstick (raw) and he went crazy. From that moment on, he absolutely refused to eat any of his canned food. It was raw meat or nothing.

How much variety is he currently getting? Does RC Kitten come in one flavor or several? What is the protein source? And what the Weruva? Only the one flavor of pumpkin lickin chicken?

Yes, the Royal Canin "kitten" comes in one flavor (I think chicken is main protein source). And I've only tried the one flavor of Weruva. And that is it for his variety, outside of the occasional pieces of bacon, freeze dried chicken & stolen bits of cheese. I caught him eating my other cats "low calorie" dry food about a week ago. He seemed more like himself this morning and I was able to convince him to eat most of his 5.8 ounce can of RC, but I don't think he is liking it so much anymore.

LOL...... I think you are right. I didn't actually let him eat the raw chicken, but he tried his best to pull it out of my hands. He sunk his teeth into the raw chicken breast and I grabbed it before he could take off. We had a little tug of war going on and he growled at me through his clenched jaw. Very funny! Sounds like it may be time to offer something else.

Yes, it sounds like he is developing a refined palate, LOL! However, I would still be concerned about the vomit you discovered... if he has an upset tummy giving him a little liquid Pepcid can sometimes settle it.

I would take this opportunity to s-l-o-w-l-y introduce him to other foods, particularly other forms of protein. I have a cat that developed an allergy to chicken at 3 years old. I was fortunate that he also liked beef so I transitioned him 100% to beef and then slowly introduced him to new forms of protein such as quail, rabbit and duck. If your baby thinks that chicken (and bacon, LOL) is the only food on the planet, you could have some tough times ahead.

And I had a cat that was obsessed by rabbit until she developed an allergy to that and chicken is what she eats now. It IS good to have them eating a variety but there are some individual cats that are strong-willed enough to not cooperate with that.

i do think it a good idea to explore different foods with your kitten, it seems that this may help with his appetite... and I recommend raw as the most natural and healthy option for him too. Over the years, I have found that kittens grow best on a raw diet...

Thank you for all so much for the great advice. I'm gonna keep a close eye on him and I have an appointment with my vet on Friday for a check-up (probably more for me than him). He played a lot this morning, but has been sleeping most of the afternoon. We will make a trip down to our local pet store (MudBay) this evening to pick-up some new food choices. They are a great store (employee owned) with locations all over Washington and Oregon and the staff seems well educated. I think they carry Radcat, Natures Variety & Primal. They love it when we bring George in for a visit.

Remember that when changing a diet you want do that gradually as a sudden change in diet can cause upset. I have found when changing to a raw diet that there is less upset though..
