Pine litter Vs. regular litter

Hello All!
I would greatly appreciate any input the community has on the issue of cat litter. I am going through 40lbs of litter a month between my four shit machines lol. They are currently using Scoop Away Complete. The litter is wonderful. Clumps very well and leaves the litter box in a state of never needing to be dumped out completely (with the exception of the occasional wash of the boxes). The downside to this is the harsh chemical smell and the dust. The litter claims to be dust free but that is not the case. We had Boujie using pine litter when I brought him home from dear Jennifer. I know there are health risks concerning the chemicals in traditional cat litters. Could anyone offer me thier experiences, positives and negatives along with brand reccomedation for a pine or any other healthy alternative. After any of the cats use the litter box I will watch them clean thier feet, licking between toes ect... I fear anything they are ingesting in the cleaning process may cause future damage to thier health and this bothers me greatly. Thank you in advance.
Attached is Boujie toe sucking... He does this multiple times per day all the while purring away. I am certain he has to be ingesting whatever remains between is pads/toes.

Interesting. So my cat isn't alone. I figured she picked up the bad habit from our dog. It is almost comical when our dog gets half her leg in her mouth while chewing on her toes.
I didn't even think about litter "left overs" being on her feet when she's doing this. I'll follow this thread to see the recommendations.

If you are looking for clumping litter that isn't clay, Worlds Best Litter is a good option. I use that for one of my cats and I like the Forest Blend version since I normally use pine pellets. It is pricey but a good safe option for clumping. For most of my cats I use Pine Pellets that are horse bedding. I get them from my local feed store. 50 lbs is $8. I change them completely every 4-5 days (more frequently for some cats) and scoop poop every day.

quite appealing.

In the meantime, I use World's Best.

I mainly use the wood pellet litter here, I've found it best for odor control and I detest clay litters and lumps stuck on the bottom of the litterbox etc. Just overall it's worked best for us, as long as your cats are okay with it.

For the kittens we raise, the mom has the wood pellets but we start the babies with small litterboxes with the clumping type litters just for their little unsteady paws... so I use Sswheat Scoop for that. I've also used Nature's Miracle also in the past. Kittens are prone to putting litter in their mouths so I would not want them to ingest clay litter...

...and is bacteriostatic so doesn't encourage the passing on of infection from cat to cat in multicat households!
