I should mention that thru all of this, as long as she feels that she cannot be snatched up and brought to the vet, she is good. Even at her worst moments, she still eats from our hands and accepts pets under the bed. It really seems like an overwhelming fear of going to the vet. Of course, she has already been to the vet more than a dozen times this year so I get why she feels that way. The last time really shook her up. She was there for an ear cleaning, blood draw for liver values and an antibiotic shot. As I was paying, the receptionist told me that all the techs were back there to see her and maybe that was just too much for her.

Ah geez. I get it. When I had the first herpes outbreak with my crew a couple months ago, I was surprised and dismayed. It seems that Rafiki is in an endless cycle of stress-less stress which isn't conducive to keeping herpes outbreaks at bay. I wish there was a panacea for all her issues.

I saw Kristin's post about lemon balm and plan to try it on my crew. Maliik seems to be the one who started the herpes domino effect here. He goes long periods without an outbreak and then long periods with. His eyes are the main issue and I know that in future I may need to make a decision regarding quality of life for him. At present, he is doing well overall.

Witchy, what are the symptoms with your crew? Is it eyes, mouth, respiratory or a mix? With Rafiki, it has primarily been the eyes and now the mouth.

Nonstop sneezing, lethargy, inappetence, coughing, fever in three. I bought a steam vaporizer to use with Atticus and Juba who bore the brunt of the latest outbreak (which was also the first one that affected all 4 cats). Maliik is the outlier with his symptoms, gets sores around his eyes and sometimes ulcers in his eyes. His appetite isn't affected as much as the others. He gets drippy nose and some sneezing.

Wow. All 4. I think that Jammu is a carrier as he is symptom free and Rafiki loves to wash his face. Thank goodness I have had no issues with inappetence. She is much less willing to play and socialize but no coughing and very little fever.

Well, I have seen famcyclovir used in cats. It gets metabolized to penciclovir. Couldn't find any information if it is a problem in hepatic disease.
My son used the human tablets broken in half for his SV. Got the job done.
Might want to talk to your vet about it.
