I recently attended a nutrition seminar given by Answers raw pet food. During the seminar they were talking quite a bit about vaccinations and flea and tick products. They were saying only 1 rabies vac. Is good for life, and any more is doing a lot of harm. As far as the flea drops, they are over 350 times more powerful than the chemical that is pumped around your house for termites. And its the same chemical . I just thought this would be a good topic. Can't wait to hear what you all think.

I also have wondered what is in something that can be applied topically and is still killing fleas after a month. and how something like that is not a general health risk for my cat Maybe I am not understanding how this works? My vet says once Moggie stops growing so fast and has a more stable weight, they have this new topical flea stuff that lasts 3 months. Which on one hand sounds great, but I would like to know more about this.

He was recently given his first rabies shot and it is called Purevax. They said it is new stuff that doesn't cause cancer in a small percentage of the cats receiving it. It looks like he is supposed to get a booster in a year which is good for 3 years. Again I would like to know more. Rabies is almost non existent here.

I tend to agree with what you have said. I often wonder why we give the same amount of vaccine to a small kitten that we give to a 15 pound cat or 40 pound dog. You can do a titer and find out if your cat still has immunity, to both rabies and FCRVP . The problem with rabies is state laws.

I recall a video showing testimony that once a cat is vaccinated for rabies, it is indeed immune but that even though many vets agree, authorities would rather be safe than sorry. Basically they value humans being safe much more than possible harm to pets. There is little agreement even regarding which vaccine is safer. My first vet gave my babies a 3 year. She retired so I had to find a new vet. This vet gave them a 1 year saying that it is safer. The only way that my cats could get rabies would be if a rabid bat flew into my house but I live on county land and it is a requirement.

Fipronil is the active chemical found in termidor, a very powerful chemical that inhabits the shedding of a termites exoskeleton. At this point it's life is still unknown for sure, possibly up to 25 years or more. And that's at 05%. Great for killing termites, but unfortunately the same chemicals are in flea and tick drops only 350 times more powerful. And they say to apply this poison to our pets once a month. WOW!!!

Oregon doesn't require rabies for savannahs, adhering to the stupid idea that there's no evidence it is effective in hybrids. I'm happy I don't have to give them rabies shots. As far as other vaccinations, I stop all of them after the 1 yr boosters. If they came in contact with free-roaming cats in the neighborhood, I may have taken another course of action. They are confined to their catio and taken for walks in a pet stroller and I think their risk of exposure to disease is minimal.

I agree. I did the titer testing for the other vaccinations and they have immunity. Unfortunately I need to provide an annual certificate for rabies.
