This was a bit amusing today- well, okay, it made my blood boil, but was amusing as well...
We were at a pet shop in town- they have exotic pets. We've met the owner, chatted with him a time or two. He's really passionate about his animals and cares about them. Yeah, he runs a store, but I guess we all have to make a living.
Anyways- one of the critters had a nasty looking poop that wasn't right for said animal. It should have had a more pellet-like poop and instead, it looked like doggy soft serve. Well, I pointed this out to a store employee- who promptly replied, "Well, we've been feeding him a lot of crap around the store". Said animals have a really delicate system- so I pointed out that they should probably watch what they feed him because crap will kill him. Then the kid changes it to, "I mean- we feed him xyz (appropriate diet for the animal)". Okay- well- that poop isn't NORMAL, buddy.
Finally, begrudgingly, he gets up and comes over- shoves the poor critter INTO the poop, which smears on the floor, and goes, "Before you get ALL HSUS on me..." real loudly and starts to storm off to get something to pick up the poop.
Dude- he's lucky I didn't get all 'HSUS' on his buttocks. ROFL. I was soooo mad.
So what did I do? I came home, emailed the store owner- explained the situation- and tattled on the employee. Oh yes, I didn't get all HSUS on him- I got all pro-exotic pet ownership on his butt instead!
The owner sent me a very nice email back and the situation with the kid will be taken care of. The owner also ensured me he's keeping a close eye on his critter (it's one of his personal pets- so it's all good).
So freaking funny... So if you ask someone look into an animal's welfare, you are being AR? NO- that is AW- peeps- ANIMAL WELFARE is important and none of us should ever confuse AR with AW.
