Alternative to microchipping?!

I'd rather take a minimal risk with chipping knowing it gives my kitten the best chance of making it out of a kill shelter alive.

None of my Savannahs will leave a collar on. None.

Booger heads.

Sent from my so called smartphone so all typos and bad advice can be blamed on said "smart" phone ;)
I'd rather a cat get out of a collar than get hanged by one any day... :(

Lol and to think western New York has such a high rate of cancer because of all the toxic waste and pollution and land fills and factories and just yuck. I think it's risky enough just living here lol. I guess I can stop being the over protective parent lol well at least pick my battles I still don't fully trust only the microchip and the hay tag. So I guess I'll just hafta cave and try both. Permitting the collar doesn't get yanked off immediately lol.

Totally agree, Patti-- which is why mine never keep a collar off. The breakaway collars are just too easy for them to figure out and I wouldn't change a regular collar ever.

Our boys are microchipped.
The idea of cancer from a chip is scary, but death at a kill shelter is so much more frightening to me. . .
My kitties won't keep collars on for any legnth of time.
Recently they have been hiding the collars in the couch cushions. . .

So it's not as painful as I would think? I'm deathly afraid of needles lol. I feel bad for the poor things being poked and proded so young even if its for the best.

I think I've only had one cat that even seemed to notice it being injected - she had tough skin. In general, I think vaccines hurt more because they're putting fluid under the skin - that hurts more than the needle itself.

I would believe that. I remember when I was 13 a piece of the lawn mower plate broke off and sheered off a chunk of skin on my ankle I wasn't up to date on my tetnis shot. I cried the whole way to the doctors, if this is any consolation to how afraid of needles I am lol. I couldn't imagine poor lil things dealing with that. I wonder how I can associate vet trips as being positive. My bun silus was hyperventilating the whole way to the vet the day he got his snip. it was his third time at the vet and he knew. I think he knew he wasn't going to technically be a he anymore lol. maybe I should get Loki in the habit of car rides? To get used to it plenty of treats and maybe then he won't be scarred for life.

Beckki, I am terrified of needles. I am happy to say that my boys are not afraid of needles.
There are a couple of threads on this I believe.
I have one boy who LOVES the vet's office, so he goes on every visit. Jarvis and Mickey are more nervous, but warm up pretty quickly to the staff. Jarvis remembers having a catheter inserted, so he is tougher, but by the end of every visit, he tends to be calm if not happy.
I break shots up into 2-3 visits per cat- it costs more but it is less stress their systems in my opinion, so they all go 2-3 times per year.

I do take Mickey in the carrier with me sometimes when I am taking D somewhere, but I'm a bit cautious with that. Mickey is less confident outside of the house than D is. I only routinely take D in the car, the other two only go on car rides to the vet or to the one local pet store where I let them pick out their own toys.
