I need help on how to do the whole quarantine thing with a new puppy and our Savannah kitty. I don't want Annu to end up like liking Athena but I'm not sure how to help them get along. Any advice would be great! We haven't introduced them to each other yet, but we pick Athena up to come on sunday.

Thank you. :)

I would quarantine the puppy, as if it was a new Savannah kitten. Allow time fur the kids to get to know each other, sniffing and playing under the door to the room. Time and patience will be the key.

You build the Great Wall of Introduction. Dedicated bathroom for puppy, for well puppy reasons and that Annunaki only gives up "minor" territory at first.

Let them interact through the mesh at their own leisure like pictured. Feed them treats nearby and reward them for non-hostile behavior. Watch the ears and tail!!

Periodically put Annunaki in a room (depends on their comfort if it is with someone else) and then allow the puppy to explore for a half hour or hour, then go back to the same arrangement. Annunaki will start sniffing around. This is to start mingling their scents around gradually and guaranteed Annunaki will return back to the bathroom at some point for more evaluation.

After the first day or two, you may expand the territory of the puppy into a bedroom and bathroom by moving the wall. Periodically swap them once or twice a day so they can introduce their own scents. This will be stressful for Annunaki so do it in moderation.

Personally, I slept on a cot for the first two days in the bathroom before I had to bring down the wall. On Day 3 I had the master bedroom and bathroom as quarantine for Isis but the boys were simply too inquisitive at this stage with no aggression and it's been perfect. You'll know when both are side by side of the mesh and you can interact with both with no hostility.

There are plenty of high places for Annunaki to go once you get to this stage and bring down the wall for good. Let Annunaki get in swats to establish dominance those are extremely, extremely valuable lessons for the puppy on how to get along and respect cats.

Good luck!

The only problem we have is that we don't really have separate rooms to keep them away from each other and when I introduced annunaki to the cat in my old apartment he was just fine it was my friends tabby that did not like anu and about 3 weeks after having anu my roommate brought another tabby home who was probably a couple years old and annunaki instantly was best friends with her. She was also in heat but he was so young I didn't think it affected him and all he ever did with that cat was play non stop! But back to the puppy situation what could we do if we don't have multiple rooms? We live in a basement atm and it's just one big room...

I am not sure about how many illnesses can transfer from a puppy to a kitten but that would be one strong reason for the 2 week quarantine. Will he have had ALL of his vaccines by the time he comes home?

How big is the bathroom? Perhaps not for the full 2 weeks but at least a week or long enough for the puppy to de-stress, settle in and feel at home and for everyone to remain healthy.

When we were at the emergency vet last week, a young couple brought their puppy in. The puppy had not had it's last vaccination booster and they had brought him to the dog park. While they had kept him away from the other dogs as much as possible, he was exposed to the grass and they had to go to an ER vet within hours.

And by the way, I have a feeling that the two will get along great as they are both so young. We brought our 2 cats home 2 months apart and they were both 12 weeks old when we got them. Literally within 2 minutes of the grand introduction they were wrestling on the floor and having a fabulous time. The quarantine will be more to keep everyone healthy and to ensure that the puppy bonds with you and not just to Annu.

Yes she will have all of her vaccinations and are bathroom is in the back room witch is a storage room as well witch is why we can't put the puppy back there or annunaki because they will destroy a lot of the stuff.(witch annunaki has already done..) but are bathroom isn't finished so it's just blocked off by some tapestries. So we still don't have the ability to have separate rooms for them. But on another note my girlfriends friend gave her a bunny to watch about a month ago and we let it out of its cage almost instantly and annunaki just watched from a distance for about 10 minutes then slowly got closer to the bunny until the bunny came right up to him and then they started chasing each other around the room. Since he has accepted all these past animals so easily I'm hoping he will accept Athena just as fast. The only thing I'm worried about is that the dog is going to get so much bigger than him so fast that he will be scared of her and possibly hurt her but my fingers are crossed for the best!

It's up to you to train the dog not to hurt the cat and vice versa. They will probably set boundaries for each other but you'll always need to be sure that the dog respects your authority when it comes to everything and especially the cat.

If you don't have a room to keep him in at least buy a large wire dog crate so the two can sniff each other without being able to pounce each other. If the dog scares the cat right from the get-go, they may never get along. You'll need to keep the dog confined in the crate when you're not home until he's potty trained and can otherwise be trusted in the house alone.
