Another Litter Robot question-how many cats per unit?

So I was thinking about your original question whether one robot would be enough for 3. I left all of my litter boxes out because the general rule is number of cats plus one more for litter boxes. They like to have choices and I certainly didn't want to end up with territorial issues and any cat protesting and not using the litter box.

Did the kitten bond with the two DSHs? Our himy and kittens are just getting to the point of tolerating each other but they do use the same litter boxes with no problems.

After a few weeks when all three were mostly using the litter robots I removed two boxes from upstairs and two from downstairs. This left 2 boxes plus a litter robot on each level. All three cats seem to prefer the litter robot now, but if it is occupied and they can't wait they will use the one of the old boxes. Because of introducing new cats, I choose to have a lot more litter boxes than was necessary.

I guess time and observing your cats and their behavior will give you the best answer as to whether you need a second one or not. I opted for a second one because of the convenience and may even get a third one in hopes of getting rid of the rest of the regular litter boxes. It seems like every time it cycles, it's a fresh litter box to them.

I plan to try and get a video of Leo's reaction to the robot when it cycles today. It just never gets old for him. When I get that uploaded I plan to write more in the review thread. Feel free to ask any questions in that thread, although their customer service and knowledge base on site are excellent.

I'm debating if it's worth the risk with Atticus. I'm afraid he'd try to dismantle it to see what makes it tick or learn how to use the buttons to keep it cycling for his amusement. I'm going to give it a try and hope for the best.

Yeah, I am afraid that this will be like the water fountain for Jammu - he never drank from the darn thing, he just wanted to dismantle it.

You can child lock the buttons. Also, there is a removable plastic plate inside if he needs more space. Leo has spent hours circling it, trying to figure out what he can remove/play with, and pushing the buttons and pulling on the wire were all he could come up with. Of course Atticus might be more inventive, but it really doesn't have much to dismantle. I am sure that he will find the cycling entertaining. I can't wait to hear what he thinks of it!

Mine aren't loving the water fountain as much as I'd hoped either. They still both prefer a running faucet for some reason.

Rafiki does not like to bury her poopies. Jammu is more than willing to do it for her. Unfortunately, he seems to think that the litter should be spread across the entire floor of the laundry room just in case. I would love something that would prevent him from doing this as the daily vacuuming of the laundry room (it now has it's own resident vacuum!) is rather annoying.

I know and I missed the cutoff! I went ahead and bit the bullet because I really want one. My litter boxes are driving me crazy! Shipping is taking forever though. I ordered it 1/9 and it still isn't here!!
