Another Newbie Question

I would never, ever declaw any cat. Trimming Nyah's nails is going to be a feat (pun intended). I took advantage of her spay and had the vet do them, but being restrained and / or held is solidly on her no list, though she watches the chihuahuas get theirs done. I think I heard her laughing, but can't swear to it. Seriously, though, if I am unable to do this, what are the risks involved?

Becki, not sure what you mean about risks...

Since all of my savannahs have had their nails trimmed since they were very young, I do not have any problem...but my DSH boy was feral, magically transformed and is a love now at 10 years old...what I do with him is sit him on a towel on the couch next to me, talk to him and just take a paw in my hand while talking to him and then trim nail by nail...then I do the other paw (front)...then I leave him alone and do the back paws the following days...

Using a clothespin or binder clip as the video shows is really a good way to do it...

Yep, the clip works great and we did some pseudo nail clips to get Chongo at ease with things. He was a little averse to things at first and so a couple fake out jobs where he got lots of attention while holding his paws and seeing the clippers in my other hand. He's not tough at all any more and I just wish there were as many resources out there when we were working with our now older cats as kittens.

If this is the scruffing technique, then it had minimal effect on Louie.

Louie, it really is good advice to start young and frequently (like every week). Today the wife starting clipping Mayhem, and as soon as she was done, Rascal jumped up on the counter to have his nails done. No treat bribes. Just a scruff on the head and a good boy and he was happy.
