Any savannah outdoor cats?

I love my babies. I would never let them out unsupervised or off the leash. I have heard way to many accounts of how a cherished fur kid has gotten out, gotten lost and sometimes never been found..or worse, found dead. SO my advice... No! Never allow them out unsuprvised unless you have a totally enclosed cat run. Too much at stake.

Carl, I definitely do not regret putting in that enclosure. Being able to run in and out when we are home has been a huge plus. When I am outside working, she still puts up a fuss but at least she does not try to dart out the door. I do have to replace the two tubs of sod as the grass is now more hay.

I agree with everyone. Risk vs. reward, it is completely not worth it. Keep your baby safe because he/she doesn't know the dangers like you do.

For those that leash train, what do you do when a dog walker is approaching? I've been taking Leia out on a leash but afraid to let her off the porch because of all the dogs on walks.
I just pick Sterling up if I see a dog. He perches on my shoulder. I've never had a problem before.

I would ask what Breeder forgot to add the "No outdoors alone" in their contract, what Breeder stated an SV of any generation is going to be a good indoor/outdoor cat, & why would you spend the money on a cat your neighbor is going to see as a stray? All my cats are leash trained imagine a menagerie of Mastiff, Maine Coon & SV, also they have an enclosure (Thank you Carl), they have a Bird station with multiple seating arrangements, a mailman who brings them treats, 2 Mastiffs trained to care for them. If the animal control here sees a loose cat it's "taken care of" immediately, why risk your pet? As for seeing a dog on our walks, our neighbors walk with us along with 8-12 of their pets, it's village walk for us.

"K". It all depends on Leia's reaction and the approaching dog's reaction. If it looks like it could become confrontational, I would just pick her up and go to the other side of the street. Avoidance tactics. :)

Nothing like spending Easter plucking maggots out of the leg of an indoor/outdoor cat that was injured while outdoors, hid from its owners bc it was in pain and was finally found a week later with the open wound which grew maggots. Did you know maggots snap, crackle and pop as they squirm around?

I got to see this in a "controlled" enviro; on a human patient...the maggots start eating fresh healthy meat once the softer infected meat is gone...apparently it hurts.

I remember this from my wildlife rehab days. Was picking maggots out of a Red Tail Hawk and one of the little buggers hit an artery and the bird bled out in my hands.

Another reason to keep the Savannah indoors -- people near you will find out how much these cats cost and might see an opportunity to make a buck by stealing and selling the cat. I am a bit paranoid about this because all of my neighbors made it their business to find out the price ranges of SVs. I don't even leave them in their enclosure unless I'm home.
