Any savannah outdoor cats?

The Savannah chooses the Companion. This has been well known by those that study wandSavannah Lorre.

That's what I have always loved about cats, once bonded, they'll do anything to stay with you. And if you aren't their chosen one, they will seek out the one.

Bonding with my first sv, was the most intense and rewarding experience I have ever felt. To lose her would totally tear me apart, but the joy of reuniting, damn bet ya  like a newborn, while cuddling and loving connection completed.

How's the triplets doing?? Still waiting on pic's :big grin: when you have a free moment that is :roflmao:

I would never do this!!! I live in the country too and have first hand experience with many of my dsh barn cats living maybe a year before they disappear never to be seen again!! I have one big tom who is about 12 years old, but he's the only one - the 3 other barn cats I have who survived are about 3 years. You pay so much for a savannah cat that it's just not right to leave him to fend for himself against a coyote or other wild animal. I get upset when my barn cats disappear or get injured - I'm known for rushing to the vet with an injured barn cat, so I just couldn't ever put my savannah babies out there like that.

I currently don't feed whole prey, but rather whole carcass ground rabbit and chicken thighs with added organs.

My cats could certainly be different, although domestic cats in general are amongst the planets most efficient hunters. I'm also sure it would have a lot to do with opportunity, as that rabbit in the backyard just looks like an updated version of the Kong Kickeroo.

Anyway, like anything else I'm sure there are cats that wouldn't take to it as easy as others. Watching Dino and the way he practices stalking a toy, I'm absolutely sure he would be an effective hunter outdoors. Sometimes for an hour or more, he will place a toy in a precarious place approach it from various angles and eventually just pull all the stuffing from it. If the toy was a squirrel, rabbit or chipmunk undoubtedly it would be lunch.
Last summer a young bird tried to fly through the wire of our cats enclosure ,both cats went after it and Casey was closer and grabbed it ,I went to rescue it and Casey growled at me and ran into the miniature bamboo , the cats have made trails through the thick ground cover and the enclosure is way to big to try to corner him , when I saw the bird was dead I let him have it for awhile , about 10 or 15 minutes latter I went out and the bird was gone, just feathers ,he ate everything , the cats got their enclosure mid summer 2013 and it's very close to a woods and the thick ground cover and pond attracts small animals and our cats nature is to hunt, once they have cought something they are a hunting cat , it's not the same chasing a stuffed toy on a hard wood floor .IMO

Yes a Indoor outdoor cat, I had a cat before the savannah and it was a indoor outdoor cat, at about 18 years old it died, I don't have a enclosed fence or anything like that, curious if it would come back or if it would want to go wild completly, not so much worried about cars, or coyotes

I urge you to have a enclosure for your Savannah it's the responsible thing to do & your cat can play & sun bake In safety leaving your cat to free roam is a recipe for disaster.

I must say that I would never let my savannahs out unattended. They go out on leashes and in a stroller though ;)

My cats don't eat whole prey, but I have no doubt they would be able to catch their food. Tiger is a great hunter and catches all the poor mice that come into the house. Zeddie will if Tiger gives her a chance and caught a mouse in my bed last summer!!

Cats are hunters, can't fault her for that, although there was a lot of midnight screaming

Hi everyone, I have an f6 and I would really like to let it see the outdoors once it becomes a little older, does anyone have a savannah that is an outdoor cat??
Thanks

I had a tabby cat that I found as a stray, at about two weeks old. He lived as an indoor/outdoor cat for most of his 20 year life...until I moved out to the country. I was worried about an Eagle, Hawk or Owl attacking him. So kept him inside for the last four years of his life.

My Savannah has been an indoor cat, outdoor (cat only on a leash or in a cage). She tends to be more curious, faster and can leap farther than my previous tabby cat. So my advice would be, to teach your Savannah to be on a leash or build an outdoor enclosure. This way the cat still gets fresh air, can hunt bugs and bask in the sunlight. They are such expensive cats and I agree that your precious cat could be scooped up by another if you don't keep it close by.

It is very risky, regardless. I live in the suburbs and we have displaced coyotes roaming around. I would not want my cats to fall victim to that :(

I don't think it is just the risk of losing your cat. It's posible your cat will consume something that isn't good for it's diet.

There is a Savannah that runs loose in town. It roams just like all the other cats. I've heard about it, and someone has sent me pictures. If I ever see it, I will catch it and bring it to live with me.
