I dunno either. Sometimes they develop a fever too, just like a human baby. I think fever and gums that are uncomfortable upset their systems. I'm curious about it and will try to remember to ask my vet next time we go in for a visit.

The more he wants me to rub the sides of his face, the worse his breath. When he doesn't want me rubbing, his breath is not bad. He also will chew on my fingers when his breath is bad, so I am confident it is teething. Just like my kids when they were teething.
Just like human babies...why not? They are babies. They can't say.." Daddy my mouth hurts..."

Teething definitely leads to stinky breath. Think about when you have major dental work done - mouth is less than kissable with all that coppery taste. Yuck.

Would some chicken or turkey necks help him feel better? If nothing else it would be entertainment.

He feels fine. Just smelly. Besides...I'm not sure I'm ready to have chicken or turkey necks laying in pieces all over the house. He finds enough to chew on.

And Kanadian... I better not be losing teeth. I have put too much $$ in my dentist's pocket in the last year for that to happen.

I am sooo introspective today, and am feeling so much love and thankfulness for my fur kids. I am feeling so helpless that I cannot help Stormi with Teukie. I weep with her. She is such a sweet young woman and Teukie is such a cute little fella...and Regie's half brother. I pray things will not be as they seem and that he will fully recover.
So it is written, so let it be done.
