Wanted to share that the last 2 nights, when I have let Azidi roam the house, she has come out and sat at the back screen door and watched the birds, neighborhood cats, and the general hum drum of the neighborhood. Also, unlike the past, when I would walk by the room, she did NOT dart back into her room. In fact, last night, I went out and sat beside her and she talked to me while she watched the outside. She also let me stroke her back. And last night, when it was time for her to go back to her room, she was a bit reluctant to do so. It took a lot of coaxing to get her to go back to her room. But she did. And I did NOT have to chase her or even threaten to chase her. All I did was sit and the floor and ask her. She walked until she reached the hall, where she finished up running. She was not upset having to go back to her room.
She is coming along beautifully. Getting friendlier with me all the time. It just goes to show that with kindness, love and patience, any frightened kitty can be won over.
I am beginning to have hopes that possibly in the future, she may tolerate exposure to the kids. Kilifi darted into her room yesterday and Azidi went up her tree only to the first shelf (about 4 feet up) and sat there bravely, while Kilifi ran to the tree and put her front paws on the shelf about a foot from Zidi's face. Zidi hissed a bit but Kiki was a good girl and did not posture at her at all, and said nothing. I picked up Kilifi and put her out and told Azidi she was a brave good girl. I also told Kilifi she was good for not attacking Azidi. That has been the least confrontational meeting they have had. We shall see.
