Biting in the bed

We have a 16 week old F2 who is absolutely wonderful until you try to sleep with him at night. During the day there is no biting or attacking if he is in the human bed but at night when you settle in for bed his behavior completely changes and he ends up having to sleep alone or should I say us the humans have to. I want him to be able to sleep with us but his demeanor completely changes and he get very rowdy and BITES and pounces. Any suggestions?! If you are anywhere else in the house with him at night his behavior does not turn to this. It is in the bed only.

I am not sure why his behavior changes at night but suspect it is because he wants to keep you from falling asleep so that he can get more attention from you. I would try playing hard with him for at least 20-30 minutes with a wand toy or similar activity just before you are ready to retire to try to wear him out before bedtime and see if that makes any difference. I would not try to distract him from the unwanted behavior with play at bedtime as that is probably the attention he is seeking so you are just rewarding the behavior. Instead I would scruff him as soon as the behavior starts and put him outside of the room. You can try letting him back in after 15 minutes or so but if the behavior recurs repeat the same process. Eventually he should learn that the behavior will result in unwanted consequences and will hopefully break him of the habit.

THank you!

Our 6month old F6 just started this last night. I’ve kept her awake all day today until an hour ago. She can sleep for another hour but she’s getting back up to run and play until MY bedtime! Lol
