Bitten by the Savana Flea

well the bug anyway,

I am a long time cat owner of the domestic cats, short haired, some one has a litter and I need a cat go and get one for free, except the last one which was given to me by my ex wife when she lost her home and could not take it to the apartment. Rust is a good cat loud but good.

I am looking at getting a Savanna here in the near future and need some info, have read most of what I can on the web, but have some basic questions.

1 What do they eat, I feed Rusty dry and sometimes a cat of tuna or cat food.
2. are they an indoor cat only?
3. Any special considerations with in the house for them
4. Cat Trees anyone have DIY plans for one?

As I learn more will have more questions, so any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Feeding: A high quality canned food, raw food, or a combination of both. Tuna is ok as an occasional treat but causes vitamin deficiencies when fed as a staple of the diet. Kibble should be avoided if possible.

2. are they an indoor cat only?
Yes.

3. Any special considerations with in the house for them

Because of the SVs high energy and tendency to thwart the laws of gravity, it's a good idea to put away breakables at least until the cat is a year old and by then you'd know habits well enough to judge if breakables would be safe to take from storage. I use a product called Quake Proof that keeps breakables glued down so the cats can't knock them over. Electrical cords should be covered to protect kittens from chewing. They have been known to swing from chandeliers (they can jump pretty high). There are many other things to take into consideration and we can help you evaluate your home once you decide to get a cat.

4. Cat Trees anyone have DIY plans for one?
I don't have one but hopefully someone else will post. You can Google search and find some plans.

As I learn more will have more questions, so any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Welcome Walt! I think Deborah has covered it pretty well! If you do a search on the forum for cat trees, you will see some DIY versions that people here have built!

Let us know if you have any other questions...we are happy to help!

Welcome Walt! I feed raw and have since before I got a savannah. Savannah are high energy cats(most of them) ... I ended up with a pretty layed back savannah, for the most part. He will have what I call burst of energy through the day, he will run wild through the house and then plop on my lap lol. He never goes out loose!!! I have 2 outdoor enclosure at my home for my cats. My husband has made a couple cat trees out of cable wood spools and I have stairs on our walls, among other things through out the house.

Well found out that the state of Fla you need a class 2 wildlife to own a house pet, nice isn't it

Welcome, Walt! What generation of Savannah are you looking to add to your life?

The Fla. wildlife license can't be for all cats, right? Or do you mean F1's?

You must be prepared to live with a high energy, inquisitive, stubborn, ADHD two-year-old for the next 10-15 years if you want to get a Savannah...
Lol! Yeah, that about sums it up!!! :p

Well made a few calls today and the only time you need a permit is with the Servals, so back in the hunt, as I am looking for just a house cat not a breeder or show, any of them would do for me. I am also looking at turning my spare bedroom into a cat room, so housing the cat will not be a problem.

Idea's would be great and looking for a breeder in Fla or south Ga.
