Carriers for Car Travel

I use this bicycle rack in my car, it converts to a seat that you can seatbelt in, then Duma wears his harness which is attached to the seat internally:



It did take him a few times to get used to sitting in it (essentially we would sit in the car without the car moving and I'd pet him and talk to him), but now that he's used to it he sits up like a dog and looks out the windows, and I don't have to worry about him getting out and around the car. I hope someday I might even get him on my bicycle, but that will take a while.

I use a hard crate from Nylabone, and I had to get the bigger one for my F3 that fits up to 30lb animals...Newton is tall and long!

I do not recommend soft carriers for Savannahs. Simon (F1) in two seconds flat split a hole in one of mine and was peeping out while I was driving on the highway doing 80 MPH.

And it went from- him being quiet (NOT frantically ripping at the carrier) to "Hello! I'm Simon! What's that whizzing by???"

So I recommend hard crates- PARTICULARLY for F1-F2 owners.

Trish, you are absolutely correct. Hard crates ONLY for F1 and F2 cats for travel, and possibly other generations. And quality is of utmost importance no matter what carrier you use. I once had an F7 kitten literally shred the mesh and zippers on a cheapie soft crate to escape so he could ride on my shoulder for the duration of a trip...lesson learned to go with quality.
