Hello, well im not a great speller and have just 2 things that make me happy......cats and trips to Jamaica,i even helped spay cats on my last trip.My calico girl of 22 years passed on 3 yrs ago and i only made it a week with no cat.My 22 yr cat was free- so it was a tuff sell to the wife when i found a manx for 150.00...she said 150.00 for a cat but she said ok.I brought the manx home and with in hrs i could tell she was a good cat but i knew deep down she wasnt my cat soul mate, she liked my 8 yr old son.So off to the internet i went.I see this wonderful bengal kitten i JUST had to have.I show the wife the cat on the web page, she says beautyful cat how much (she was mad i was looking for a new cat the same week i just got one) i said well she 850.00 are you crazy she says. With a bit of begging and whineing i was off on a 3 hr drive to get her.I just love this cat and how she acts. She is said to be a f8 or f9 and is totaly crazy (not mean)plays catch as long as your arm holds out, loves stalking games, runs out of nowhere grabs my leg(no nails)and by the time you look down shes already gone, and loves to run full speed around the house then leeping up the cat pole. The wife is not into jamaica as much as me and says if i skip going this year i can get a SV.She says you been to jamaica 7 times in the last 2 1/2 yrs and to get a SV as that is something to have besides just a stamp in the pass port.I really enjoy the bengal and can only imagen how much id enjoy a f2 SV.Thats my story and heres my 2 girls.

That's pretty funny that your wife has said if you don't take a vacation you can have a new cat...but it is true... a Savannah will cost about the same as a vacation but you get to enjoy it for much longer :)

Welcome to the forum!

It depends on the generation and some other factors on just how expensive a Savannah might be... how much would your vacation to Jamaica be?

I generally recommend that people start with an F2 or F3 in any case... an F1 can be a LOT of cat, and may be more than your existing two kitties want to deal with also. Some of the F3s we see nowadays from good programs look really very like the F2s we can get...the lines are blurring a little. People usually assume they want the F1 for the most Serval, but honestly the F2s and F3s are much easier pets and quite enough fun in themselves!

Ok, a little SV education...savannahs are not wild and do not act wild...they are just crazy - LOL! on a serious note, we do not like to attribute any type of wildness to savannahs, since they are being banned and limited in many states.

I will let others who have F2's and F3's answer you...my F6 is very laid back. My F5 kittens are a bit crazier, love to fetch and zoom around and jump in the air after their toys...my F4 female is - different...she is a tad more difficult as far as needing attention, super smart, obeys commands, and loves whole prey...each cat is an individual, so it is difficult to say...

Savannahs of any generation can have the high energy you are talking about, and there's no generality to it so much as they can be individuals at any generation. I've produced more laidback kitties at F2 generation and had some F4 and F5s that were completely nuts. My F5 that I am showing right now does fabulous backflips after the wand toy... it may depend on the line the Savannah comes from but also the individual.

Your Bengal sounds high energy and playful but as Paige says we try to avoid the word "wild" as it leads to negative assumptions about our breed. They are more hyperactive children that never really grow up...

I started with and F5 SV and loved how he would snuggle and lay on my lap when I sat down. I would pick him up and he instantly starts to purr. He plays but gets tired and then walks away.

I got an F2 about 4 months ago and noticed a big difference in how they relate to me. My F2 doesn't like to be held unless I am moving. She has to choose when and where she will sit on my lap. She can play for hours and still not tire as easily as the F5. She only purrs when she is tired and or waking up. She is affectionate and loves to be around people. She has a lot more quirks than the F5.

Both are wonderful but if I was looking for a pet I would definitely go with the F2.

My Persian passed away only 2 months ago (he was about 8 yrs old)...before this I don't think I even knew what a SV cat was! Right after he passed away, I started researching hybrid cats and was hooked on the SV. Next thing you know I'm taking home an F2 male SV kitten! The rest is history. I think you're on the right track ;). --dj

We breed F3s and find them to be the perfect mix for us. Like when I taught elementary school, I liked 4th graders best. Just personal preference.
