Cat lover pondering a SV!

If I had made assumptions about all F2s from my first one, or about Savannahs just from my first one, I probably wouldn't be a breeder. Much as I adore my Bobo, he's not what one might think is a good Savannah...he's 75% Bengal for one thing and I think that influences a lot of his looks and behavior too. My second F2 had the behavior I loved most, she was very energetic, athletic, quirky and funny...as well as having the looks I wanted to start my program with.

kinda sounds like me. I went maybe 5 months without a cat. i moved out of my parents house. i ended up getting 2 Bengals at the same time. my wife made it a big deal that i was spending too much money. now she loves them to death. i got my SV not long ago (f3). i got a lot of crap about that too since it she was way more then 2 Bengals combined. but now my wife is in love with our new SV.

I agree with Brigitte! My F4 female is about as active as any F2 and just as tenacious, single-minded and quirky. I do not think you can generalize about savannah per generation, except maybe an F1. They are all individuals.

Whats the size differance between 2 and 3 ?

Can't tell you...it depends on the individual cat...my F5 kitten is a big boy...his size is equaling that of many F2 kittens the same age...all my male kittens were a good size...but...for me it was never about size, although I bring up Ixas' size to show you that there is no telling about size...

There is no size difference between the generations, the ranges each generation might reach are equivalent really...although the World's Tallest Cat was F2. Each generation might only be domestic cat size, or they could grow large and tall. Or just large.

Until the kitten is 7-8 weeks old it is almost impossible to know which one is going to really get big...that's when their legs start really shooting out and they start to eclipse their littermates etc.

But as Paige says, we can see size at F5 generation even... the F5 girl I am currently showing is only 6-7 lbs at 7 months of age, but her littermate brother just weighed in at 16lbs....

A Savannah should look taller and longer than the average domestic cat, but they can be deceptive in weight because they should also be a leanly muscled cat so not necessarily weigh a whole lot more.

And I think it is fine to "want" the size, as long as it is not a deal breaker... you could easily get a kitten that a breeder "promised" would grow big to get that sale, and then it really doesn't fulfill that promise. Hopefully, the other traits will more than make up for it, their good looks and stellar personality :)

My f2 male is 8 months old and almost 20lbs. Hes great and I love him but even thogh he likes to play he has no interest in being petted. my f3 female is amazing and sleeps under my arm every night.

It's a shame your F2 does not like to be petted...it may just take a lot of time and patience...

IMm kinda used to being snubbed by my bengal,a pet or two for a sec is fine any longer she will get up and move,i can onld hold her about a minute then she tryng to get down.I ve had her 3 yrs and she is how she is.When i came back from a few day trip she wouldnt even look at me and rad away like she never saw me before, that lasted 4 days.I just chalk that up to being a hybrid.

it is not true that just because your bengal or a savannah is a hybrid, they do not like to be held or petted...there are plenty of savannahs that love to be held and all of mine love to be petted...it depends on the cat sometimes and other times it depends on how they were or were not socialized.
