Chewing fake plants and throwing up

Does anyone else have this going on with their Savannah? Of course I know that I cannot have real plants in my house because she chews and swallows them. So I thought I would try using a fake plant. Well…. she chews and swallows the fake plant too….and then throws it up (most of the time on my bed). She has done that over the course of eight months since I put the fake plant in my bedroom. You would think after chewing it and throwing up over and over again she would figure out what causes it and stop. So yes I finally moved the plant into a room that I keep the door shut. But what in the heck is the reason that she would chew and eat a fake plant?

I'm afraid I can't give an answer as to why they chew plastic plants, and came to the conclusion it's sheer devilment. I've had the same happen with Vito, when he was small I'd just move the plants up to a higher place, but given that now he's jumping over 6 foot, nowhere is a safe place from him.
I'm afraid I resigned to doing away with plastic plants for fear of intestinal blockages. Unfortunately we have to make such sacrifices for the safety of our little darlings :)

It might be the resemblance in looks drives your cat to chew on the plant...or as Vito's owner says, just sheer devilment.. either way, I think your cat has demonstrated that you can't have a fake plant in your home! You could try bitter sprays on the plant and see, but I'd just get used to no plants in the house...

I would try growing some cat grass in some pots for her, and also providing some safer things to chew on. My pet store has dog chews that are made from dried lambs ears and rolled up dried esophagus. One of my guys seems to need to chew and regularly shreds cardboard boxes and egg cartons. Which seems to be a common pass time for Savannahs.

Sheer devilment! That totally comes into play many times, every day. But as far as plastic stuff… She will also chew on plastic wrap that items are shipped in. But yes anything like that I have to remove. But the devilment part, it’s amazing how smart they are and the things that they will do to get your attention, whether it is negative attention or positive attention. In the mornings when she is ready for me to get out of bed she will do anything and everything to get my attention. She will Run and jump across the bed and pound on me or start the iRobot or mess with the window shades. Anything that she knows she is NOT supposed to do, that’s when she will do it!

Yes, can totally relate to that, I think their all the same, when they are up and about, how dare you sleep :)
Re the chewing plastic , my guys are the same. Some cats become obsessed with chewing plastic, I believe it's called Pica.
They are certainly very clever when it comes to getting your attention with their behavior, be it good or bad.
We are finding Lola (7mths) is more mischievous than the two boys combined, she's always in the thick of any nonsense. Oh how we love the little menaces.

Girls are always more trouble! They work out the naughty stuff and the boys follow along!
